The Detroit Schwaben Unterstuezungs Verein is one of the oldest German clubs in the Detroit area, having been created by a group of like-minded men in 1883. The goal of the club is to sustain a membership that helps support German language, culture, and traditions, as well as to care for those members striken by illness.
Today, the Detroit Schwaben Unterstuezungs Verein does not have as many members as in its heyday, but still sustains the ideals and traditions that it initially espoused. We look back with pride on our 112 year existance. True to our homland motto "Sitten und Brauche," the Detroit Schwaben Unterstuezungs Verein has remained the club with the tightest link between old world culture and new world opportunity.
